Wacky Halloween Facts

Hi!!

Halloween is so close and I'm so excited!!! I thought I'd do something different and instead of a Halloween recipe or costume idea, I'm going to be telling you 9 wacky facts about the holiday!

1. Jack O'Lanterns were originally made from turnips

2. Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween

3. The largest pumpkin ever weighed 836lbs!

4. Scottish girls believed they could see images of their future husband if they hung wet sheets in front of the fire in Halloween. Other girls believed they would see their boyfriend's faces if they looked into mirrors while walking downstairs at midnight on Halloween.

5. Children are more than twice as likely to be killed in a pedestrian/car accident on Halloween than on any other night.

6. According to tradition, if a person wears his or her clothes inside out and then walks backwards on Halloween, he or she will see a witch at midnight.

7. Ireland is believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.

8. Halloween is the second highest grossing holiday after Christmas.

9. Halloween has variously been called All Hallows'Eve, Witches Night, Lamswool, Snap-Apple Night, Samhaim and Summer's End.

And so that is the best 9 facts I could find!! I hope you learnt something but if you didn't then you must be a genius!!

Halloween games

Who can have a Halloween party without Halloween games?! So here is a list of some ideas fora little Halloween fun...

Mummy Wrap: In groups, choose one person to be the mummy. Using toilet paper wrap the mummy up and the first group to finish wins.

Identify What You Feel: Line up five plastic dishes and cover them all with a cloth. Let each guest stick a hand in each dish, under the cloth so that the contents can’t be seen, and try to guess what it really is. You can fill the dishes with anything, such as rice pudding, baked beans or jelly. The person who guesses the most contents wins.

Apple Pass: Divide guests into teams and line each team up. The first in line for each team is given an apple under his or her chin. Without using any hands, the apple must be passed to the second team member’s chin and so on until all the members of the team have held the apple. If the apple drops, it must start at the beginning again. The first team to successfully pass the apple down its row wins.

Doughnut Race: Divide guests into teams. Hang as many doughnuts as guests from a washing line by string. You may find this quite hard to do (I definitely did!) Without using your hands, each guest must catch and eat a doughnut. The first team to finish their doughnuts win. Yummy!!

What Am I?: Pin or tape Halloween-themed pictures on each guest’s back (without the guest seeing what it is). While others can only give yes or no answers, each guest must guess what he or she is.

Bobbing for Apples: This is probably the oldest but best Halloween game ever! You fill a large bucket with cold water and place it on the ground. Float some apples in the tub and invite guests to try and fish an apple with their mouth - NO HANDS! Anyone who gets an apple deserves a prize. You may want to do this at the end of the evening otherwise all your scary makeup may get ruined!

Halloween makeup tutorial

Hello guysss!!
Here is a quick tutorial of a really easy and simple halloween makeup design. This is very easy to do and all you need is: white and black face paint, makeup sponges and black eyeliner!!

Step 1: Paint half of your face using the white face paint and a makeup sponge. You may feel it looks better if you do a few layers of this, so wait for the first to dry and then paint another one on top.

Step 2: Using the black face paint, paint a circle around your eye. Follow the line of your eye socket and fill in the circle until it is completely covered. Again, you may want to do a few layers of this.

Step 3: Draw a line, using black eyeliner, from the corner of your mouth to your ear.

Step 4: Using the eyeliner, draw vertical lines crossing the line in step 3. These lines should be 2cm apart and should go across your lips as well.

Step 5: From the top and bottom of these vertical lines draw 2 very small lines going diagonally left and right. Smudge out these lines slightly, using your finger.

Step 6: Using the eyeliner, draw half a heart shape on your nose and fill it in. Spray your face with makeup setting spray andddd....

You are ready for trick or treating!!!

This is the final look
Of course you can continue this look on the other side but that is up to you!!

Love kirsty

Halloween cupcakes

We have come to that SPOOKY time of year again, that's right, Halloween! Eloise and I thought we would make this month a Halloween special so every post will contribute to making your Halloween the best yet!
First up is.....
HALLOWEEN CUPCAKES!!

Ingredients:
110g/4oz butter or margarine
110g/4oz caster sugar
2 free-range eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
110g/4oz self-raising flour
1-2 tbsp milk

Frosting:
60g butter
60g cream cheese
240g icing sugar
1tsp vanilla extract
dark green, black and orange food colouring

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and line a 12-hole muffin tin with paper cases.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until pale. Beat in the eggs a little at a time and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Fold in the flour, adding a little milk until the mixture is of a dropping consistency. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until they are half full.
  4. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden-brown on top and a skewer inserted into one of the cakes comes out clean. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and cream cheese until smooth, you can do this by hand if use an electric mixer if you are too lazy (like me!)
  6. When it is smooth gradually add the icing sugar and continue to cream until light and fluffy.,
  7. Mix in  the vanilla extract.
  8. Put 2 scoops of the frosting into a separate bowl and add dark green food colouring (you only need a few drops).
  9. Put 1 scoop of the frosting into a separate bowl and add black food colouring.
  10. Put orange food colouring into the remaining frosting .
  11. Use the orange to layer the whole of he cupcake, making it look like a pumpkin.
  12. Use the green to pipe a pumpkin stalk at the top of each cupcake.
  13. Use the black to draw SCARY faces!!!!
Enjoy!!!!
